Real Madrid shortlist Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold but a deal appears unlikely

According to DefensaCentral (h/t Liverpool Echo), Spanish giants Real Madrid have shortlisted Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in their three-man wishlist at right-wing back.

Los Blancos are keen to sign a new right wing-back who can provide suitable competition to Spanish international Dani Carvajal. The two others on the list apart from Alexander-Arnold are OGC Nice’s Youcef Atal and Chelsea’s Reece James.

Alexander Arnold is one of the most dynamic young players in the world and is a local lad who is living the dream. He signed a new long-term contract that lasts until 2025 earlier this summer, handing Liverpool the advantage in any potential negotiations.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have become a formidable wing-back duo at Liverpool

Liverpool’s primary approach this summer appeared to be to secure the future of their most important players rather than bring in new ones. Trent was one of those players, once again showcasing the regard in which he is held at Anfield.

The Englishman has been part of a Liverpool side that has experienced both domestic and international glory. He could be set to play a bigger role in Jurgen Klopp’s rebuild over the next two years.

There is little for Alexander-Arnold to gain by moving to Real Madrid. The Spaniards are in need of a massive rebuild and are behind Liverpool in terms of current prospects. More so, Alexander-Arnold is arguably equally as good, if not better than Daniel Carvajal, and has no reason to play second fiddle to the Spaniard.

Still just 22, Alexander-Arnold has already established himself as one of the finest wing-backs in the game today. Alongside Andy Robertson, he forms one half of arguably the most dynamic wing-back pairing in world football today.

Alexander-Arnold is a key player for Liverpool and a large part of the club’s attacking impetus depends on his movement up the flank. There is little to suggest he will consider leaving the Reds anytime soon. As a local lad, he is already living the dream and will gain little from moving to Santiago Bernabeu.
