German keeper Loris Karius is looking for a move away from Liverpool in hopes of more game time

According to BILD Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool keeper Loris Karius could be looking for a move away from the club in order to get regular game time.

The 28-year-old German keeper has gone at the bottom of the pecking order in Liverpool’s goalkeeping lineup. The shot-stopper had to endure a tumultuous career with the Reds. He is probably remembered most for his forgettable performance against Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final.

Karius hasn’t featured in a top-flight match for the Merseyside team ever since that 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the CL final. Liverpool went on to acquire Alisson Becker after that who has since cemented his place as the top goalkeeper for the Merseysiders.

Caoimhin Kelleher has proven to be a great understudy to the Brazilian. The youngster has shown his worth in domestic competitions for the club recently. He played an instrumental part in Liverpool’s latest victory against Norwich City in the Carabao Cup fixture.

Adrian has been called upon to deputies for the two as and when it is required. The German shot-stopper had loan spells with Besiktas and Union Berlin since then but a permanent move never took place.

Basel were believed to be in contention to sign the 28-year-old keeper but the move fell apart in the latter stages of the window.

The German goalie spoke about his intentions and plans for the future:

“My goal is to be under the bar every week, and we’ll see where that is. There were a few clubs in the picture, but that didn’t get off the ground for various reasons. I’ve been out for about six weeks and I’ll try to rejoin training after the international break and get back in top shape. And then we’ll see what will happen in the winter.”

The keeper will be out of contract with Liverpool at the end of the season. The Reds have enough cover between the sticks for now. It is highly unlikely that Loris Karius can make his way back into the Liverpool first team and thus, a move away from the club could be the perfect solution for the Merseysiders as well as the player.
