Liverpool target Youri Tielemans tipped to leave Leicester City to test himself at the highest levels

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express], Liverpool target Youri Tielemans could leave Leicester City to test himself at a higher level.

The Belgian midfielder has been an instrumental part of Brendan Roger’s team ever since he joined the Foxes in 2019. The 24-year-old midfielder has scored 13 goals and provided 16 assists in 94 Premier League appearances for Leicester.

His most memorable strike was most likely against Chelsea which helped them secure the FA Cup title last season. It is believed that Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United are also interested in the 24-year-old Belgian midfielder.

Youri Tielemans could be a like for like replacement for Gini Wijnaldum who left the club to play for Paris Saint-Germain before the start of this season. Despite the Reds having a good run of form, they have received an early injury scare in midfield as Thiago Alcantara and Harvey Elliott are currently unavailable due to injury.

The addition of an attacking midfielder like Tielemans could certainly boost the Merseysiders attacking threat. He could provide great mobility and creativity down the middle of the pitch. The Reds were very quiet in the last transfer window and focussed on giving long-term contracts to their core players.

The Anfield outfit could thus be pushed to make a greater impact in the coming transfer window to bolster their squad. They have also been linked to other midfielders like Yves Bissouma recently.

If the Foxes midfielder does make the switch to Liverpool, his experience in England’s top-flight could help him adapt better to the dynamics of the setup in this Merseyside team. That being said, he may also have to fight for his place in the first team with more experienced midfielders in the fray.
