Transfer News: Liverpool interested in Valencia CF midfielder Gonçalo Guedes
According to Fichajes vis Sportsmole (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in 24-year-old Valencia CF forward Goncalo Guedes.
The Portuguese midfielder still has 2 years left on his contract but the Spanish club could be forced to sell their top players due to their current financial crisis. The attacker has already scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in the La Liga this season. The report also suggests that fellow Premier League rivals Arsenal are also interested in securing the services of the Portuguese midfielder.
How can Goncalo Guedes fit in at Liverpool?
The 24-year-old forward can provide a great attacking threat to this Merseyside team. The Reds have lost one of their dependable bench players in Xherdan Shaqiri this season as he has gone on to join Lyon.
Liverpool still haven’t purchased any suitable replacement for the Swiss winger and also saw Harry Wilson depart in the summer. The Premier League club had a pretty nonchalant transfer window last season and could be pushed to make more of an impact in the next window.
Despite Jurgen Klopp rotating his squad to preserve the fitness of his players, injuries to players like Harvey Elliott and Thiago Alcantara have given him an early cause for worry this season. The Valencia attacker also brings a hint of versatility along with him as the 24-year-old can be deployed as a winger if the need arises.
An exciting addition in attack can be of great use to Liverpool as it would allow the 54-year-old manager to mix things up and give some rest to his key players. If Guedes does make the switch to Anfield, he could be a wise long-term investment into the club.

Any move or interest in the Portuguese midfielder at this stage could only be considered tentative but with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino not getting any younger, the club should ideally start looking for future replacements as soon as the situation allows.
