Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah asks for huge increase in wages to sign a new contract

According to The Independent (h/t Express), Mohamed Salah could be seeing a massive increase in his pay scale in order to sign a new contract with Liverpool.

According to the report, the 29-year-old Egyptian winger has apparently demanded a weekly fee in the bracket of £300,000 and £380,000 to sign a new deal with Liverpool. The Reds spent last summer trying to tie down their core players to long-term contracts with the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Andrew Robertson, Jordan Henderson, and Fabinho were all granted renewed contracts with the Merseyside team. Despite these triumphs, Liverpool could not nail down a new deal with their prolific goalscorer Mohamed Salah.

The winger is currently the joint second-highest-paid player alongside Thiago Alcantara at the Merseyside team with £200,000 a week in wages. van Dijk, meanwhile, is currently the highest-paid player at the club after his new contract.

The Egyptian international has been an instrumental part of this Liverpool attack ever since he made the switch to Anfield from AS Roma. He has been one of their most consistent attackers and played a huge role in the club securing a plethora of silverware. The forward also played a pivotal role in bringing the Premier League back to the Merseyside team after a wait of three decades.

Salah put on a terrific display against Manchester City in Liverpool’s latest PL fixture as he scored an exquisite goal against the Citizens to temporarily hand the lead to the Anfield outfit. Kevin De Bruyne scored a stunning equaliser late in the game to salvage a point for City.

Mohamed Salah has scored 134 goals and provided 50 assists in 212 appearances across all competitions for the Reds. He has become a goal-scoring machine and many could argue that he deserves a bigger wage packet.

The Egyptian forward has easily been one of Liverpool’s most influential players in the senior squad and according to Sportrac (h/t Express), is only the 17th best-paid player in the Premier League.

With the 29-year-old forward entering the twilight of his prime years, Liverpool could have a tough battle on their hands. His apparent demands of £300,000 and £380,000 would still not make him the highest-earning player in the Premier League with Kevin de Bruyne and Cristiano Ronaldo sitting comfortably at the top.

The Egyptian winger has gone on to become a living legend at the club with fans and experts singing praises of him from time to time. The management and coach would certainly want to keep a player of his calibre at the club after all the milestones that he has achieved with the Merseysiders.
