Robbie Fowler believes Liverpool meet the contract demands made by Mohamed Salah

Former Liverpool striker and club legend Robbie Fowler believes Mohamed Salah deserves a new contract that matches his performances. Salah and his representatives have been in negotiations with the club with both parties hoping to reach an agreement.

Having scored nine goals and assisted thrice in nine matches, the Liverpool winger has had a sensational start to his season. His form has also helped the Reds to top their Champions League group while holding onto second place in the Premier League.

With Salah’s contract set to expire in 2023, the Merseyside club are seeking to tie him down on a long contract to avoid uncertainties. However, the club and the player are yet to agree on the monetary terms of the contract.

As per the report, a deal worth £500,000 per week is being discussed by the two parties. This would make the Egyptian the highest-paid player in the club’s history. If agreed upon, this would eclipse Virgil van Dijk’s new contract that earns him £220,000 a week.

Robbie Fowler’s thoughts on the situation

Talking to The Mirror (h/t Daily Mail Online), Fowler has dismissed claims that breaking the wage structure for Salah would result in a fallout within the squad. The Kop legend instead argues that meeting Salah’s demands will unite the dressing room. His argument is based on the belief that the squad would consider it well earned.

The former Reds striker went on to add that that a “world-class” player like Salah deserves a contract of this magnitude. Speaking to The Mirror (h/t Daily Mail Online), he said:

“Mo Salah is, without question, world class. And, in my opinion, there won’t be one dissenting voice in the Liverpool dressing room over the Egyptian being rewarded with a new contract that will make him the club’s highest earner”.
