Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain urged to join Southampton by former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent

According to Liverpool Echo, former Tottenham Hotspurs striker Darrent Bent has suggested that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should consider a move to Southampton in the winter transfer window. The Liverpool midfielder has fallen down the pecking order in recent times.

The Mirror (h/t Liverpool Echo), has mentioned that Oxlade-Chamberlain is unhappy with his current situation. The report also states that he is contemplating his future at the moment due to the lack of playing time.

Ox feels that he is in a state of a rut at the moment and is thinking about moving elsewhere. Bent continued by giving his thoughts on the situation. He said:

“I would like to see him back at Southampton. That’s where he started. Why not? But I think he is better than that”.

The England international started his career at Southampton but moved to Arsenal in 2011. The 28-year-old joined the Reds from the Gunners in a move that costs Liverpool about £40 million.

According to Daily Mirror (h/t Metro), Oxlade-Chamberlain does not want to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side, however, if there is no change in the situation he would be forced to do so. The report also mentions that Arsenal are interested in getting him back.

A return to Southampton could hold an emotional value as they helped Ox to get to this point. But as Bent mentioned, the midfielder still has a lot of years left and a move to the Saints may not suit his current ambitions.

The situation may change in the future as football is affected by a lot of variables. An injury to one of the starters could help him get his place back. However, Ox may not wait around for such situations as he would want to play as much as possible.
