Transfer News: Liverpool keeping tabs on Club Brugge starlet Charles De Ketelaere
According to the Spanish news outlet Fichajes via The Express (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are desperate to sign Belgium starlet Charles De Ketelaere.
The Reds are keen to increase their attacking depth and have identified the highly-rated wonderkid as an option. Having scored four goals and providing three assists in thirteen matches at the club level, he has shown himself capable of performing at the top level.
The 20-year-old’s performances have caught the attention of a number of sides. Liverpool are very much interested in pricing him away from the competition.
De Ketelaere came on as a substitute for Belgium and scored their only goal in the 2-1 defeat to Italy in the UEFA Nations League third-place playoff. The youngster showed great composure by placing the ball between Gianluigi Donnarumma’s legs to score the consolation goal.
The Belgian prospect is very versatile and with his recent performances, he has shown off his potential. Apart from Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal are also among the interested parties.
Having taken a closer look, the teenager’s ability to play in midfield, as well as forward, could pique the interest of Jurgen Klopp. The Merseyside club would want to increase the depth in their forward line to avoid a repeat of last season.
With Xherdan Shaqiri’s move to Olympique Lyonnais in the summer for £9.5 million, their frontline has thinned in number. Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino have so far not fared well during their time at Anfield.
Bringing in De Ketelaere will at the very least give them another option in attack, along with a real prospect for the future.
