Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard opens up on reported interest from Newcastle United
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has responded to speculation linking him to the managerial role at Newcastle United.
Following the recent takeover, the Rangers boss has been considered as an option to replace Steve Bruce, the current boss of the Tyne based club. A comparative novice in the art of management, Gerrard has shown great promise as a tactician.
Gerrard is considered a legend of a player after his remarkable career at Anfield. He has the third-highest appearances for Reds with 710 matches while scoring 186 goals and making 150 assists.
Now making a name for himself as a manager, Gerrard’s star continues to shine following his success at the Ibrox. The former midfielder has given his thoughts on the speculation surrounding him and the Magpies. Speaking on the issue, he said:
“I think it’s interesting, what’s happening at Newcastle. I think if anyone deserves a break it’s the Geordie fans. So I’m sure that excitement levels are very high down on the Toon.’
One of the recent hot news in the Premier League is the takeover at the Toon by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The new ownership has instantly made Newcastle one of the richest clubs in the world.
The 41-year-old Gerrard has been continuously linked to a move to St. James’ Park after Mohammed bin Salman became the new owner. The Merseysider is in his fourth season at Ibrox Stadium and has won one Scottish Premiership.
However, the former Liverpool player has insisted that he would not get involved in any sort of speculation involving the topic. He further commented that everyone who is involved with football will be looking at the Geordies with great interest.
“I don’t really get involved in speculation. And I wish Steve Bruce all the best.”

The former England international has dismissed all claims linking him to the Magpies and has wished Bruce all the best. With Newcastle confirming Bruce’s continuation as the boss for the game against Tottenham Hotspur, it remains to be seen what will follow.
In the meantime, there have been suggestions of the former Liverpool captain becoming a manager at Anfield in the future. Whether he will be keen to test himself out in the Premier League prior to that day remains to be seen.
