Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Danny Mills has suggested that Fenway Sports Group should offer Mohamed Salah a bumper new contract and give in to his demands. It is expected that FSG will offer big bucks to tie down their biggest star to fresh terms.
Mo Salah recently scored a wonderful solo goal in Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Watford on the road, cementing himself as arguably the best player in the world on current form. The Reds are hot on the heels of Chelsea, who sit a point above them at the summit of the Premier League.
According to the report, FSG are prepared to offer Salah a mega-deal worth £350,000-a-week. Looking at Mo’s blistering form, it would be wise for the club to give him a contract that matches his output.
Speaking on the matter, Mills believes Salah is worth the money and it would cost more to replace him. He said:
“He’s a fantastic player, he’s worth it. If that’s the going rate, that’s the going rate. If they were to lose Mo Salah how much does it cost to replace him?”
As per the report, the 29-year-old wants a new contract that would keep him at Anfield till 2026. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023 and the club would be hoping to reach an agreement soon.
“You’ve got to get a transfer in of £60million, £70million then you’ve got to give them £150,000, £200,000-a-week. You’ve got to look at the whole package. There are the bonuses and signing-on fees too.”
With Salah seemingly unaffected by the uncertainty surrounding him, it would be best for Liverpool to put the speculation to bed. And a better contract could motivate the winger to reach further heights.
If anything, the Egyptian king continues to make a strong case for himself with his on-field performances.
