Transfer News: 28-year-old Liverpool target playing in Serie A considering his options amid contract standoff

Transfer News: Liverpool show interest in Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic

According to the Catalan radio station RAC1 (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in securing the services of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. The Reds hope to beat a host of clubs who are keen on the player’s services.

The report states that Inter and Brozovic are yet to reach an agreement on the renewal of his contract. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022 and talks have so far not proven constructive, with the player now believed to be looking for options other than staying at the club.

The Reds face competition from the likes of FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain for the Croatian international. Jurgen Klopp’s side could provide him with a stage to take his career further should he decide to join the club.

With James Milner nearing the end of his career and Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara suffering from multiple injuries, having a good backup in midfield is essential. The Inter midfielder would be a really solid option to have, looking at his injury history.

As per the report, the 28-year-old is demanding an offer of €6 million per year and the Nerazzurri are yet to accept that offer. This could make way for a potential transfer should the Italians prove inflexible in negotiations.

The Liverpool midfield could do with some young additions.

With the Nerazzurri also suffering from financial issues, they would loathe losing a star midfielder for nothing. Whether this will see them open to selling the player in January remains to be seen.

If Brozovic decides to leave, the Merseyside club presents him with an intriguing choice. Not only do the Reds have a solid footballing project but could also find themselves being able to afford the player’s demands. It could prove to be a win-win for both parties.
