Liverpool made an effort to land Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati before his contract renewal
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool tried securing Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati for themselves as the youngster was discussing fresh terms with the Catalan giants.
The Reds knows the extent of teenagers’ talent and could have secured themselves a big name for the future. Fati has time and again shown he has the tools to make a name for himself in the top flight.
Fati is only 18 years old and is already one of the most prominent names in the Catalan dressing room. After all, it is not every day that a youngster is handed Lionel Messi’s iconic number 10 jersey.
He scored eight goals in the Blaugrana jersey in his debut season and showed serious intent of becoming a future star. He missed most of the previous season’s action due to injury, but has since returned to action and has not skipped a beat. This season he made a comeback from injury scoring two goals in 4 games.
When the Catalan club was in dire need of someone stepping up, Ansu came forward knowing that it could be impossibly hard to replicate Messi’s legacy. While he is yet to fulfil expectations, he has emerged as a rallying point for the Nou Camp giants.
His renewal was overdue with FC Barcelona, and many European elite clubs took the chance to approach his agent, Jorge Mendes. Liverpool for their part made an offer of £240,000 a week but was ultimately unsuccessful
But Ansu and his agent decided to stay in Spain because it ss ‘a better fit’ for the youngster at this point of his career. One cannot blame him for doing what is best for his career.
Ansu Fati completed his renewal with Barcelona on the 21st of this month, and his current release clause stands at billion euros (£842million). That suggests that he has made his decision to commit his future to the Catalans.
