According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are all set to offer star winger Mohamed Salah a new long-term deal that will make him the club’s highest earner.
The Reds are ready to use the offer of a lucrative signing-on fee to hold onto their star man for another few years. The Egyptians’s current contract at Liverpool runs until 2023.
The Reds have a wage structure in place and are not keen to make an exception. They however could pay Salah a signing-on fee to offset his salary demands. In all fairness, it is what he totally deserves considering the outstanding form this season.
Salah, who is seen as the world’s best player at the moment ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has 15 goals to his name this season for Liverpool. This includes a treble against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Currently, Reds defender Vigil Van Dijk is the highest earner at the club and earns £220,000-a-week. Salah’s new contract will surely eclipse that figure and see him rightfully take the mantle as our top earner.
Salah is keen to stay on at the club and has made his intentions clear. The onus is now on Liverpool to make the Egyptian an offer he cannot refuse.
“It doesn’t depend on me, but if you asked me I would love to stay until the last day of my football [career].”
Liverpool, who were not active in the transfer market this summer, have been actively tying up their current stars to new long-term contracts.
Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was the first to pen a new deal by signing a four-year extension in July, which was followed by Brazil midfielder Fabinho, who penned a new contract
days later.Goalkeeper Alisson Becker agreed on a new deal himself while Van Dijk also extended his contract. Salah joining them could very well prove to be the most pivotal piece of the jigsaw.
