Legendary Italian manager raves about ‘masterpiece’ Liverpool in latest interview

AC Milan Arrigo Sacchi describes Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as ‘a masterpiece’ in ‘perfect tune’

According to the Daily Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t LiverpoolEcho], in a conversation with Jamie Carragher, Arrigo Sacchi described the current Liverpool team as ‘a masterpiece’ without any real superstars.

Once a tactical revolutionary, Arrigo Sacchi now spends most of his time watching football action on the screen. He was involved in a conversation with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher after the 5-0 victory over Manchester United. They were discussing the current Liverpool team and Jurgen Klopp’s influence where he also gave his verdict on the recent tacticians who replicated his work.

Arrigo Sacchi is one of the very few managers who revolutionised how football is played in modern times. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, he coached the great AC Milan team that dominated Itay and the whole of Europe with their quality performance. His Milan team that won back to back European Cups in 1989 and 1990 included legendary players like Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, Baresi, Maldini, to name a few.

He also pointed out the main difference that set them apart is the way individuals act. He feels that every player in the Liverpool team plays not for himself but for the whole team.

“This Liverpool team is a masterpiece. A fantastic team without any real superstars. A true team. If they were an orchestra, they would always be in perfect tune and in perfect time.”

He also praised Jurgen Klopp’s management of the team. That feeling is entirely mutual as Jurgen Klopp’s also feels that Arrigo Sacchi is one of the most influential coaches in the game’s history.

The former Italian national team manager also reminisces when he watched the Liverpool vs Barcelona game in the Champions League 2018/19 semifinal. He believes the match can play a big part in why he wants to coach an English team in the next life.

“I was emotional because it was not just a team winning; it was an entire city. In the next life, I want to be a coach in England.”

Sacchi suggested that Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola is following his footsteps as their style comes close to his philosophy

The legendary manager also suggested that Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp come closest to his philosophy in football from recent coaches. These comments coming from a great like Sacchi is the highest compliment a manager can receive and the German boss can be proud of the work he has done at Anfield.
