Transfer News: Liverpool targetting Real Madrid star Luka Jovic
According to Fichajes (h/t LiverpoolEcho), Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid centre forward Luka Jovic.
The Serbian was the talk of the town in 2019 when he gave many magnificent performances for the German club Eintracht Frankfurt. It was enough to convince Real who splashed the cash to land him that summer.
He has, however, failed to put together a consistent run of form and has found the back of the net just twice in 38 appearances. A return to Frankfurt on loan last season did little to improve his fortunes and he is now back in La Liga, goalless this campaign
In the current season, Jovic has featured five times in La Liga. Though he hasn’t been able to score any goals, he has provided one assist. A poor return from a player who could have gone on to succeed Karim Benzema.
It could however prove to be a blessing for Liverpool, who need another forward in their ranks. Other than Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi, the Reds don’t have any proper centre forwards. Jurgen Klopp’s team are looking for a striker that can ‘dominate other defences.’
Jovic certainly fits the bill and is a physical specimen who can be a force to be reckoned with when on form. Still just 23, he has the best years of his career ahead of him and can with some application resurrect a flagging career.
Liverpool will hope that Jovic rediscovers his best form should they manage to sign him. But they are not alone in the race as Arsenal also remain interested in the forward.

Signing Jovic is not without its risks, however. The Serbian has shown himself to be someone who can land himself in controversy. One would imagine it is not a trait that Klopp and co would like to associate with.
While his talent is undeniable, Liverpool will not just be signing his ability on the pitch but also his antics off it. Whether it still represents value to take a risk remains to be seen.
