Liverpool willing to let Loris Karius leave for free six months before his contract ends

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool management has decided to let Loris Karius off the contract hook to rejuvenate his career at another club. 

Karius was the infamous villain of Liverpool’s Champions League defeat against Real Madrid in 2018. He gifted Real the breakthrough by giving the ball to Karim Benzema to score. Then he also made a mistake while stopping Gareth Bale’s second strike that slipped from his hand. It was later revealed that Karius suffered a concussion in an earlier clash with Sergio Ramos. 

Liverpool supporters were optimistic that day, hoping that the Reds would go toe to toe with the Madrid club. But after Salah’s injury, Karius’s mistakes completely crushed their hopes. Karius lost the fan support and was never featured in an Anfield game after that. 

He spent loan periods at Besiktas and Union Berlin, where his performance was not convincing and didn’t result in a permanent move. He returned to the Merseyside club this summer, expecting a turnaround. But a Liverpool revival is unexpected for him due to the current depth that Liverpool have. 

Last summer, Liverpool attempted to get something out of his transfer deal, but that also failed, and the former Mainz player remained in Liverpool’s book. 

According to LiverpoolEcho, Liverpool has given the green light to his representatives to find a new club and are willing to let him leave for free in the winter transfer window despite having a contract with him till summer 2022. 

Swiss team Basel and French club Montpellier were believed to be interested in him. His representatives have been trying hard to find a new home for him for the last two years. Last month, the German goalkeeper said they came close a few times before but never reached any agreement. 

“There were a few clubs in the picture, but that didn’t get off the ground for various reasons.”

The 28-year-old shot-stopper suggested that even though ‘some fools on the internet’ still send him abusive messages, most Liverpool fans have shown support towards him, and he is grateful for that. 

“Also, after everything bad that happened in 2018, the first time I stepped back into Anfield, they (the fans) gave me a standing ovation and were cheering for me. That’s the saying ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, you know, you can be sure as a player they will always stand behind you no matter what.”

Even though the fans showed their support towards him, he has already lost his form, and his departure would be for the greater good of both parties.
