Transfer News: Liverpool keeping a keen eye on Real Madrid star Marco Asensio
According to El Nacional (h/t LiverpoolEcho), Liverpool are tracking the situation surrounding Marco Asensio at Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are ready to offload the player in January.
The 25-year-old was one of the most exciting players to emerge during Zinedine Zidane’s reign at the Bernabeu. Zidane used the youngster well and ensured he continued to develop into a dependable player capable of changing the flow of the game.
The purple patch shown by Brazilian, Rodrygo, has seen him turn into the apple of the eye for Carlo Ancelotti. He continues to put faith in the youngster thus impacting Asensi’s minutes on the pitch.
Ancelotti has largely preferred to deploy Asensio as a substitute at the moment. Six of his nine appearances in La Liga this season have come off the bench. He has scored three times so far this season, all of them coming in a single game against Mallorca.
It is believed that Asensio’s time at Real Madrid is coming to an end as the new manager’s plan doesn’t appear to include his services. As a result, Los Blancos would be looking to offload him in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Liverpool are interested in the winger’s qualities and are ‘keeping an eye’ on the 25 years old’s situation. A versatile player who can fulfil various attacking roles, he could prove to be an excellent addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
While Liverpool’s imperious front three appear to have rediscovered their mojo, the lack of dependable alternative sans Diogo Jota is an issue. Adding Asensio will certainly be a boost to the club’s strength in depth.
