Transfer News: Everton are interested in former Liverpool player Georginio Wijnaldum.
According to Paris United (h/t Liverpoolecho), Georginio Wijnaldum had compared Paris Saint-Germain’s group to the Liverpool side that he originally joined.
The Dutchman left the Reds dressing room and joined PSG in the summer. Compared to his Liverpool days when he was a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp, he has struggled to garner a similar standing in Paris.
He only started a handful of games in the last two months under Mauricio Pochettino. Wijnaldum is yet to replicate his Liverpool form at PSG, and at the current moment, is adapting to his new surroundings.
When asked about his current squad compared to his previous team, he said Liverpool was an evolved team formed after several years of staying together. In contrast, the current PSG team is in the development phase.
“As I said, the Liverpool team have played for years together. We made a lot of progress and evolved before winning the Champions League. Here at PSG, it looks like my first season in Liverpool; we discover each other.”
He also hinted that Pochettino’s managing style is entirely different from Klopp’s as the Argentine often favours the rotation of players and roles. In comparison, the German manager preferred sticking to an identity.
“In Liverpool, we knew each other well; we formed the same team for five years. We had our identity; it was different. The style of play too. Here, I think the coach prefers when we rotate, when we do not keep the same position.”
He also suggested that PSG is a new team full of new faces, so he’d need some time to get settled on the team.
Wijnaldum had a great spell of performances in the Champions League for Liverpool. Furthermore, he helped them to win the coveted trophy. He certainly has the experience to deliver in such big stages from which PSG can benefit.
Wijnaldum showed just what he can do in the 2-1 win away to RB Leipzig. He scored twice on the night as PSG defeated Red Vull 2-1.
