Jurgen Klopp hails Liverpool after nearly perfect win over Atletico Madrid
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hailed his team’s nearly perfect performance against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in the Champions League encounter at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds put in a convincing performance, with goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane earning them a 2-0 victory at home. This ensured their safe passage to the next round of the tournament with two games still to be played.
They are guaranteed winners from the so-called ‘Group of Death’ which also includes Italian giants AC Milan and Portuguese bigwigs FC Porto.
Atleti had plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges, but it was the hosts that opened the scoring after just 13 minutes. And from there on it was no looking back for the Reds as they dominated the Spanish giants throughout the match with some sleek and beautiful football.
Livepool have won all their matches in the group and have 12 points from the four games so far. With this win, the Reds have now improved their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 25 games.
Klopp for his part believes it was a near-flawless performance by his side on the night. While he admits that fans would have been intent to see more goals, the Reds scored at the right moments.
“In the second half that’s how it was [controlled and calm]. I can imagine people wanted to see more goals but we still created many chances, we scored a goal that was disallowed.”
“So I think the game was nearly perfect, like we want to have it. We scored the goals in the right moments.”
However, there was one negative point for Pool in the match as Roberto Firmino suffered a hamstring injury in the second half. He looks set to miss Liverpool’s next game against West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.
