According to Liverpoolfc.com (h/t Mirror), Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is set to miss several more weeks of action after suffering an eye injury.
The young Englishman suffered an eye injury due to an accidental collision in training recently. The unfortunate incident saw the 20-year-old miss the Reds’ last two games against Atletico Madrid and West Ham United.
Jurgen Klopp gave an update on the severity of the injury and the ‘unlucky’ event that caused it before the defeat against the Hammers.
Club doctor Jim Moxon has now given an update on the injury after thorough checkups. He stated that the damage would be recovered naturally without having any adverse effect, but he would be sidelined for a prolonged time.
“It’s a freak injury and very unlucky, but the important thing to emphasise is there is no lasting damage, and his vision won’t be impacted beyond the recovery period.”
He has also stated the recovery process won’t be a speedy one because they would let the healing process flow naturally. Given the nature of the mishap, it is perhaps the best approach.
When asked about a possible return date, he didn’t give an exact date but said
it’d take several weeks for the injury to recover fully.“We can’t put a specific timescale on a return beyond it will be a number of weeks from now as it heals naturally, so it’s not one we will risk, and patience is a virtue with this specific recovery.”
Jones’ injury has only increased the list of midfield injuries to the Merseyside team. Even though James Milner returned to training, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara remain sidelined.
After the disappointing performances in the last two games, the Reds were pushed to 4th position in the Premier League table. As the testing phase of the season nears, The Kopites would expect to see their young midfielder back on the pitch as soon as possible.
