Transfer News: Porto reveal their asking price for Liverpool target Luis Diaz

According to Jornal de Notícias (h/t Liverpool Echo), Porto have placed an £80million price tag for Liverpool target Luis Diaz.

The Reds are preparing for a life without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in January due to their obligations for their national sides. Both superstars would be taking part in the upcoming African Cup of Nations early next year.

The 24-year-old has become a major target for the Merseyside team in recent times. Diaz continues to go from strength to strength scoring 25 goals over the last two seasons. He is in fine form this season as he has already scored 11 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.

The Columbian ace has become a lethal weapon for his national side as well. He was a revelation at Copa America by becoming the highest scorer in the tournament alongside Lionel Messi.

He has become a valuable asset for Porto following his incredible growth. Now, the Dragões would look to benefit financially, should the player choose to leave.

It is believed that the Portuguese team would require a fee close to Luis Diaz’s release clause of €80m from interested parties. A hefty fee for a player who might have to settle for a place on the bench once Salah and Mane return.

The overwhelming value could become a concern for the Liverpool board, who has historically signed players with comparatively less money before bursting onto the scene.

But if the Reds board decides to go for the hunt, it won’t be a bad investment. The Merseyside team’s usual front three is battling with an unbeatable enemy- their age. Jurgen Klopp’s team will soon have to find viable options to replace them.
