Transfer News: Liverpool target Alexander Isak a ‘total priority’ for Arsenal

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Football.london), Arsenal have made Alexander Isak their priority target amid interest from Liverpool.

Alexander Isak has been a sensational performer at Real Sociedad. His goalscoring intent has been no secret to the football world. He has added 17 goals in 34 La Liga appearances to his tally this season. His club level consistency has won him the young player of the season award.

Not only with the club team, but he also had a breakthrough campaign with his national team in the EURO 2020. He bagged two goals with the Blågult. Such consistent display of goalscoring ability has attracted big level clubs who are eyeing a forward.

It is believed that Arsenal has set the 22-year-old player’s name as their top priority target for the coming transfer window.

Liverpool have been a big admirer of the player and showed intentions to sign him recently. It seems the German manager doesn’t consider Divock Origi in his long term plan and are looking for options for the centre forward position. The Reds are ready to go till the €40million (£33.7million) mark for the Swiss star.

But, both the Premier League teams could face difficulty in their pursuit due to the current contract obligations of the player. The youngster recently signed a new contract in July with Los Txuri-Urdin. It is believed that Real Sociedad are unlikely to engage in any negotiation without Isak’s €70million (£59.8million) release clause being triggered.

In such a case, The Merseyside team may have to rethink their approach because the number involved seem pretty steep. But if they pursue the youngster, it could be a great signing looking at his past performance.

At the end of the day, it won’t be wrong to say that quality comes at its own price. It has been a while since the Reds have taken punts on up-and-coming players. With Isak, we would certainly be getting a youngster that has proven his pedigree at the top level. Whether FSG have what it takes to financially go through with such a deal remains to be seen, however.
