Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain working ‘hard’ for a place at Liverpool amid exit rumours
According to liverpoolfc.com (h/t Mirror), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain revealed that he would be working hard despite the lack of game time at Liverpool.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain‘s Liverpool career has been ‘what could have been’ for the past four years. After making his £35m move from Arsenal, he has started less than 40 games under Jurgen Klopp. A severe knee injury took away a year of his career, but his lack of game time has created mass speculations on his future.
This season the former Gunners started his third successive game in Saturday’s clash against his former team. However, he was substituted later in the 76th minute of the game.
Japanese player Takumi Minamino who came in the place for Alex, took just one minute to score Liverpool’s 4th goal, which secured the win.
His recent contract with the Reds is set to finish in 2023. Amid huge speculations, it is believed that he could return to the North London side.
Despite the rumours about the exit, the English player’s comment has suggested otherwise. Chamberlain revealed that he worked hard to earn the starts that haven’t come easy, and he was ready for it.
“I’ve been lucky enough to get those opportunities recently; I’ve kept my head down, I’ve worked hard for them, made sure I was ready when the time came.”
He pointed out his intentions to help the team achieve goals that would eventually help him with his personal goals.
“Now it’s just looking forward and keeping the momentum, keep helping the team to achieve all of our goals. Ultimately, your individual goals kind of work hand in hand with that.”
He also suggested that he would continue working hard to earn more and more chances under the German boss. With the Reds’ midfielders getting injured left and right, there is no doubt that more opportunities will open up for the Englishman in the heart of Klopp’s starting XI.
“If you keep working hard, things fall into place, so I’ll be working hard for that, and we’ll see what happens.”
