Transfer News: Liverpool set to ignore any bid for Divock Origi in January
According to Northern Echo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool intends to keep hold of Divock Origi amid reports linking him to a January switch to Newcastle United.
Despite proving many game-winning knocks, The Belgian international has been continuously neglected by Jurgen Klopp for a starting position. This saw him linked with a move to newly rich Newcastle.
But it seems the Magpies won’t be able to fulfil their wish to sign the Belgian player in January. Origi looks set to complete yet another season at Anfield.
Even though Klopp previously gave a verdict on his future, saying that the centre forward “would leave” in the summer, that did not happen. But a mid-season move involving the Belgium international seems slim given the January problem the Merseyside team will face in the absence of the African duo.
It is believed that Klopp’s team intends to keep hold of their forward, and the Reds board will reject any January transfer window offers for the 26-year-old player.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are set to miss several games in January due to the African Cup of Nations. In the absence of the two most important players of the Reds squad, the German boss don’t also want to lose Origi.
Despite getting fewer chances, the former LOSC Lille player has proved his worth in important games. Origi has been an unsung hero of crucial games. His goal against Barcelona in the Champions League final in 2019 gave Liverpool their 6th European title.
