Steven Gerrard wants to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on a loan deal
According to Mirror, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is keen on signing Joe Gomez in a temporary deal amidst his lack of game time at Liverpool.
The Liverpool legend took charge of Aston Villa earlier this month following a successful spell in charge of Rangers. After analysing his option at Villa Park, he feels the need for reinforcements in the defensive position.
He has set his eyes on his former club’s long-serving defender Joe Gomez. The Englishman is a player Gerrard will be familiar with from his time at Liverpool.
Gomez has suffered a minor drop in performance after returning from injury this season. While there is no better solution than playing regularly, it is a luxury he cannot have thanks to the riches at Liverpool’s disposal.
In such a scenario, Gerrard sees an excellent opportunity to lure the English international in a loan move by assuring him better game time. Gomez would certainly be an excellent addition to their backline.
Despite his age, the 24-year-old is a veteran of Liverpool and he has experienced the ups and downs during Klopp’s reign. However, his last season was hampered by a critical injury and has only made life difficult for him.
Liverpool have five fully fit viable options for the centre back position, and thus players like Gomez are taking a hit in game time. But given last season’s defensive crisis, whether Liverpool will risk loaning out one of their best defenders remains to be seen.

Even though the situation is concerning for the 24-year-old player’s career, it’d be interesting to see whether Jurgen Klopp decides to loan him, given the fresh memory of last season’s disaster. But it would be an excellent opportunity for the English international to rejuvenate his form and make a strong comeback.
