Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gives honest opinion on record sixth win in the Champions League group stages
According to SkySports, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed his honest opinion on making Champions League history with the Reds.
Liverpool delivered a classic Champions League performance last night at the San Siro by defeating AC Milan in their own backyard. Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi were on the scoresheet to make it 2-1 for the rampant Reds.
From Liverpool’s point of view, the match was a stepping stone for bigger things to come. As the Reds had already secured the qualification for the Round of 16 by winning their first five games. They weren’t under any type of pressure last night yet delivered a professional performance.
On the other hand, the match was a great disappointment for AC Milan, who were eliminated from European competitions altogether for the remainder of the season. They discovered that competing against Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and co. is one of the toughest challenges for any team at this moment.
The Reds secured another glorious record last night by becoming the first English team to win every match of the Champions League group phase.
After the match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp suggested that even though it’s a magnificent achievement for the team, it’s just a small part of the history that the current Merseyside team is drafting.
“And we won all six games, which is absolutely incredible and just another chapter for this group of players.”
The German manager seemed firm in his idea of achieving the big prize (the Champions League title) as he suggested that capturing the points to get on the next phase is what he is interested in more.
“It’s not a prize (winning all six), and you win something; I’d have taken each points tally to go to the next round, but 18 is the best, so we take that as well.”
Last season some ill-timed injuries and the absence of critical players ravaged the performance of the Reds. In the previous season, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid eliminated Jurgen Klopp’s team in the Round of 16. It was a frustrating season from the Merseyside team’s standards. However, it seems they have found their ‘mojo’ back.
