Liverpool are interested in signing promising 22-year-old Barcelona defender

Transfer News: Liverpool are interested in signing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo

According to El Nacional (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are keen on luring Barcelona star Ronald Araujo who has attracted the eyed of Jurgen Klopp in recent times. 

The Uruguayan has stepped up for Barcelona this season. The 22-year-old has made 18 appearances across all competition and has been the first choice centre back for new manager Xavi. Araujo has developed himself into one of the top defenders in La Liga, and his growth is no secret in the footballing world.

The defender has a contract with Barcelona until 2023. But the Catalan club’s current financial situation is not best suited to provide critical players with lucrative deals. It is believed that the 22-year-old is ‘dragging his feet’ to sign a renewal. 

The scenario has alerted Liverpool, who are eyeing a defender. It is believed that Jurgen Klopp has shortlisted Araujo to be a long term leader for his defence. 

It seems Barcelona have valued their star defender £38million. Liverpool wouldn’t face any difficulty in agreeing to such a fee. Moreover, Jurgen Klopp’s team could be able to offer him a more lucrative deal than Barcelona at this moment.

The Reds’ has an abundance of defensive options at this moment. But the luxury could turn into a difficulty for Jurgen Klopp to keep hold of the current players. It is believed that Liverpool’s Nat Phillips has been looking to move away from Anfield in recent times. 

On the other hand, Joe Gomez has also fallen from the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp this term. The English defender’s lack of game times could push him towards an exit in the coming window.
