Mohamed Salah asks Liverpool to sign a new striker as contract negotiations continue

According to Sky Germany, Mohamed Salah has asked the Liverpool board to sign a new forward as a part of his negotiations for a contract renewal.

The Egyptian has developed himself into one of the best players in the world this season. He has already bagged 22 goals and nine assists in 24 matches across all competition, and his goalscoring run looks unstoppable at this moment.

The 29-year-old has shown why Liverpool must keep him in the team for an extended period. With his contract running out in 2023, a decision will need to be made soon.

The Reds board still hasn’t found a way to renew Salah’s contract. Indeed, the talks are ongoing, but without a new contract, Salah will be eligible to talk with foreign teams from January 2023.

It is believed that the Egyptian has demanded the Reds board to sign a forward during the negotiation phase.  Whether it is a pre-requisite before he pens fresh terms remains unknown.

Liverpool has been heavily linked with Erling Haaland in recent times. It is believed that the Norwegian has a £75m release clause which he can activate after the end of the season. But there is massive competition for the 21-year-old forward’s signature at this moment as PSG, Real Madrid, and Manchester City have shown interest

As the January window approaches sorting Salah’s contract should be the utmost priority for the Liverpool board. Even though agreeing to all his demands would create a possibility for a disruption in the dressing room, his current demand makes sense.

All the three Liverpool first-choice forwards are either crossed the 30-year mark or closing on it. Their long-term commitment to the squad becomes uncertain in such a situation. Thus Liverpool should look for alternatives in the market.
