European superstars could stay put at current club amidst interest from Liverpool

Kylian Mbappe could choose to stay at PSG despite Liverpool interest

According to French outlet L’Equipe (h/t Liverpool Echo), Paris Saint Germain’s renewal talks with Kylian Mbappe is ongoing amidst interest from Liverpool.

The French international is among the best young players in world football and could become the numero uno in the sort in the years to come. At 23-years-old, he has already created an outstanding portfolio. The former Monaco man has bagged 15 goals and 15 assists in 24 matches the season.

Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a Liverpool move in recent time.

Mbappe’s current contract at PSG is set to expire in the summer of 2022. As the 23-year-old hasn’t shown any interest in signing a new contract, rumours are beginning to intensify every passing day regarding his future.

There was a clear cut chance for Real Madrid to sign the forward last summer but PSG decided to keep hold of their star player. It is believed that there is an ongoing renewal talk between the Parisiens and the World Cup winning forward, and the results could go either way.

Liverpool have been linked with Mbappe on several occasions. But Los Blancos are still believed to be the frontrunners in securing his signature if he decides to leave.

Liverpool currently doesn’t have a performance problem regarding the front lineup; however, there is an ageing concern regarding the critical stars. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have all crossed the 29-year-mark. Thus, there is a growing concern about how long the Reds forward can provide peak performance at the top level.

Even though Jurgen Klopp signed Diego Jota and Takumi Minamino recently, younger alternatives are needed to secure his side’s future.

Mbappe is young and has already become an elite performer at the top level; thus, any investment in him would provide a cumulative advantage for Jurgen Klopp’s team in the long run.

There is a short term requirement of a forward in January when Salah and Mane departures for the AFCON. However, it would be pretty challenging to lure him in that time. Even if Liverpool agrees to pay a hefty sum for the transfer, the recent news suggests that the possibility of a PSG stay couldn’t be ruled out.
