Twitter reacts as EFL postpones Carabao Cup semifinals between Liverpool and Arsenal

According to the Official Twitter account of Liverpool Football Club, the club’s request to postpone Friday’s Carabao cup semi-final game against Arsenal following a recent surge in Covid cases has been accepted by the EFL.

It was believed that Joel Matip, Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino returned positive for the Covid-19 test as the virus continues to spread at Kirkby. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp became the victim a day before the Chelsea clash and was also isolated.

Today Reds revealed another positive case from the First team. The official statement confirmed that Reds’ assistant manager Pep Lijnders had tested Covid positive yesterday evening, putting the total Covid positive number to a massive high at the Merseyside club.

A few hours before Lijnders returned positive, Liverpool registered their official request to the EFL about postponing their Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal. It seems the Redd camp’s nervous wait has ended as EFL have accepted their request an hour earlier.

Liverpool already have huge injury concern in the team. Thiago Alcantara, Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, Nat Phillips and Harvey Elliott remain sidelined whereas Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have already departed for the African Cup of Nations tournament.

Liverpool also had to close down the AXA Training Centre following the massive surge in cases in the first team.

Therefore, Liverpool would have faced a massive disadvantage if the Arsenal game went ahead. The Gunners dumped Liverpool out of the competition last season on penalties. With both sides very close to winning silverware, the Reds will be keen to repay their opponents in kind.

Here is how the fans reacted on Twitter:

One rule for some, one rule for Liverpool.

COVID already affected Liverpool’s chances in the title race, yet there was no sympathy, only complaints at Klopp. Now when an even more severe outbreak has occurred people want them to play through it again get well soon everyone affected.

Before you say “you don’t know how vaccines work” why did Klopp say that unvaccinated players are a threat to us all?

Today the integrity of this competition has been broken, by the end of the week the same will be true of the FA cup, thanks though, it just highlights things we already knew,  now media outlets are at least forced to talk about it too
