Transfer News: Liverpool striker Divock Origi prefers Premier League move despite interest from Italy

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool forward Divock Origi wants to remain in the Premier League despite his representatives being approached by three Italian clubs this month.

With the Belgian striker preferring to stay in England, interested clubs in the country would need to fork out a transfer fee to acquire his services this month, or snap him up for free in the summer when his contract with Liverpool expires.

With interest in the player coming from Italy, Origi may wait until the summer to fully assess his options and weigh up a move.

Origi’s transfer situation could change depending on the number of Premier League starts he makes this season, as it would trigger an automatic one-year extension in his contract. However, he has only featured off the bench as a substitute so far this season.

Liverpool can demand upto £10m for the striker to leave Merseyside, and may naturally not like to let him go for free in the summer considering they won’t gain any influx in cash from that transfer. Origi has spent time away from Anfield before, spending a season on loan in Germany at Wolfsburg.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has always praised the Belgian for his contributions to the team and recently suggested he would be happy for the striker to find a new club.

“(Origi) is an incredible striker and for different reasons he did not play that often, but I hope one day he finds a manager that plays him more than I do.”

With Jurgen Klopp also hinting that the striker no longer features in his plans for the future after his recent comments, we are likely to see the last of the Belgian at Anfield this year.

The 26-year-old has become famous at Merseyside for his incredible last-minute winners and has been an excellent super-sub for us. One cannot forget his contribution in our 2019 UEFA Champions League triumph- especially in the semi-final against Barcelona and final against Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker never really established himself in Klopp’s starting line-up with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane undroppable during the Belgian’s time with us, and the recent emergence of Diogo Jota put out any chance for Origi to claim regular starts for the team.

Origi’s situation is one to watch in the coming weeks, and he will be sorely missed by the fans after creating a name for himself in the big matches and scoring last-gasp goals for us. But itis obviously imperative that he remains with us for at least this month.

Without Mane and Salah, both of whom have flown to Cameroon for AFCON, we are desperately short of options up front. And that is where Origi can play a role for us.
