Liverpool warned to be taking too long with forward Mohamed Salah’s contract renewal
Speaking to the Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Everton and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has warned Liverpool that they are ‘taking too long’ to tie down Mohamed Salah to a new contract at Anfield.
Although the Reds have been in talks with Salah regarding a new contract, there has been no agreement regarding the same at this stage in the season. The Egyptian forward’s deal runs out in the summer of 2023.
Liverpool will see a host of stars’ contracts run out in 2023, including Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Campbell believes that Salah is the one to tie down first.
“The negotiations are taking too long at Liverpool. They are giving other teams an opportunity to zero in on him. They are opening the door. That needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.”
Campbell is convinced that Ligue 1 side Paris St. Germain are on the prowl for a striker at the end of the season with rumours of Kylian Mbappe leaving, and he spoke about the possibility of PSG signing Salah as a replacement for Mbappe.
Salah to leave LFC?
With the contract negotiations with Salah still not finalised, the former Premier League striker believes that Liverpool are simply allowing PSG, and possibly other teams, to ‘zero in’ on Salah and change his mind about staying on at Anfield.
Despite the holdup with Salah’s potential new contract, manager Jurgen Klopp was unfazed about the situation when asked about the same last month, as per Sky Sports News.
“We are in really good conversations. I want it to happen, but when? I couldn’t care less. We’re having good conversations. That’s the answer.”
Salah is arguably one of our greatest ever players. His goal-scoring exploits in our famous Red jersey is known worldwide, and the former AS Roma and Chelsea forward carries this Liverpool on his shoulders at times.
The manager seems unfazed about the contract situation with Salah, which is just the news we want to hear. But what goes on behind the scenes can often be different. If things are so rosy, why has an extension not been agreed upon? Clearly, there is a hold up somewhere.

Unsurprisingly, the Egyptian King has been in fine form for us once again this season, racking up 23 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions. The forward is currently out with his national side at the Africa Cup of Nations and is sure to set the stage alight in the tournament too.
We will be hoping that Salah comes back to the squad soon uninjured, as we have been mainly reliant on him to score the goals for our side. As for his contract situation, it is truly a shame that at a time we should be focusing on high-profile additions to future-proof our squad, we are instead struggling to tie down our current superstars to long-term deals.
