Transfer News: Liverpool ‘interested’ in Oostende midfielder Kenny Rocha Santos

According to Voetbal Flitsen (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are one among many clubs interested in signing midfielder Kenny Rocha Santos from Belgian side KV Oostende.

It is reported that Rocha Santos has caught the attention of many top European clubs with his performances for Oostende in the Belgian league. The Cape Verde international could be on the move soon should he continue to put up similar performances.

The Belgian club would be seeking around £8.3m to part ways with the 22-year-old. Liverpool would certainly be attracted by the cheap price tag and may be tempted to make an offer for the player.

The midfielder only joined KV Oostende the previous summer, after a move from Frech side Nancy. Rocha Santos has made an instant impact in Belgium and has appeared on the radar for many top sides within months of his arrival at the club.

The Cape Verde international is currently away with his national team for the Africa Cup of Nations, and his stock is sure to rise once again after he was named man of the match for their opening win against Ethiopia on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp could do with an infusion of youth in his midfield.

In a season where we have been desperate for a midfield spark, Rocha Santos’ name comes as an interesting prospect to consider. At just 22, the midfielder has made a name for himself in Belgium’s first division and been a revelation for Oostende.

For a young player to catch the attention of top European clubs in just six months of playing in Belgium is no mean feat. The highly-rated player is sure to want to move to a bigger club as he eyes a step up in his career.

With an ageing James Milner and an injury-prone Thiago Alacantara in our squad, a midfield shakeup seems to be the need of the hour. Skipper Jordan Henderson has also been underwhelming this season and is not getting any younger.

A fresh face in the team, especially one with youth and energy on his side, is what is needed. In Rocha Santos, they may just have found exactly what we are looking for.
