Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah makes contract admission amidst negotiation holdup
Speaking to GQ (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah stated that he wants to remain at the club, but admitted the new contract situation is in the club’s hands.
Currently, in the final 18 months of his current contract with the Reds, the forward has been in talks with the club about a new contract. However, both sides are yet to reach an agreement.
The Egyptian has always stated he wants to remain at Anfield and said that he has spoken to the administration and given them an idea of what he wants from the Merseyside club.
“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands. They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff.”
The Premier League and Champions League winner is currently away on national duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, representing Egypt. His campaign got off to a poor start as Egypt lost 1-0 to Nigeria in their opener.
The forward has been a fan favourite ever since his arrival from AS Roma, dubbing him their ‘Egyptian King’. Salah has been in prolific goal-scoring form for the Reds over the years and has stated his desire to stay at Liverpool.
Into his fifth year with the club, the 29-year-old appreciates and loves the Liverpool fans, but admits that the club needs to appreciate what he has done for them since his arrival from Italy.
“[They should] because they appreciate what you did for the club. I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation. It’s in their hands.”
It is an anxious wait for us fans to know about the Egyptian’s future at the club. It would be heartbreaking to see our best player leave us at a time when we are gunning for glory and on the path to secure silverware across multiple competitions.
Salah has always been our biggest weapon against the best teams and has also taken his performances up several notches of late. It is imperative that we tie down the star to a new contract and keep him at Anfield for the next few years.
