Liverpool target and Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma is ‘eyeing a move’ to a top four club

According to Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano via Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE on Youtube (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool target and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma is eyeing up a move to a top-four Premier League club.

Despite interest from top-flight clubs Aston Villa and Newcastle United, Romano claims that Bissouma prefers a move to a team higher up the table in the summer.

Romano has said that despite a move for the Brighton star being complicated to seal, the player wants a move to a top-four club. This is good news for Liverpool who are in need of an infusion of youth in their midfield ranks.

“I’m told that it’s really complicated. That he wants top-four clubs, maybe in the summer.”

With only 18 months left on his current contract with the Seagulls, Bissouma could be moved on for a significant price in the summer. That way, Brighton can avoid losing him for free in 2023.

The Seagulls have quoted a price of nearly £50m that interested clubs must shell out to prise the Mali international away from the South Coast. Brighton for their part are in no hurry to part ways with the player.

Newly-rich Newcastle United are said to have made initial contacts with Brighton to enquire about Bissouma’s availability. But any deal to snap up the defensive midfielder is said to be complicated, as claimed by Romano in a chat with Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE. More so, Newcastle for all their money are not a top-four club.

Liverpool have been linked to Bissouma this season. Although it seems that a January move for the 25-year-old is highly unlikely given our inactivity this month so far, there is hope that a deal can be agreed upon at the end of the season.

Our midfield has arguably been a weak link this season. This has seen us drop crucial points in the Premier League. Consistency has been lacking in players that operate in the middle of the park, and it could be a sign that we may soon need a reshuffle in our personnel.

Fabinho is the only player amongst our ranks who can operate solely as a defensive midfielder. Liverpool currently does not boast of anyone who could match him or provide cover for him when required. Bissouma is someone capable of fulfilling this requirement.

Although only 25, the player is an experienced Premier League campaigner and has shielded Brighton’s defensive line from some of the league’s elite attacking forces. For someone of his potential, £50m in the summer may just turn out to be a bargain.
