Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand showers praise on Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah

Speaking on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five, (h/t Daily Mail) former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was effusive in his praise of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah. He also went on to state that the Egyptian international in his opinion is having a better season in comparison to the one Luis Suarez has in 2013-14.

The 29-year-old forward has been a stellar revelation ever since he made the switch from AS Roma to the Merseyside team for a £34.3m fee in 2017. The former Chelsea forward set Anfield on fire in his first season itself linking up with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to create a fearsome attacking trio.

While quite a few people wrote him off as a one-season wonder at the time the Egyptian international is still playing one of the most prolific goalscorers in the Premier League which isn’t an easy task.

Mohamed Salah has become a dependable asset for Liverpool in the attacking department

The Egyptian forward has scored 25 goals and bagged nine assists in 30 games across all competitions for the Reds this season. He continues to be the focal point in this attacking department and that has earned him plaudits from critics and fans alike. His exploits have earned him a lot of comparisons to club legends in recent seasons.

Ferdinand shared his view on the Egyptian international and believes that Mo Salah is having a better season as compared to the emphatic Suarez campaign of 2013-14. Given how the Uruguayan managed that campaign, it is quite the statement.

‘I had this argument with Michael Owen. He said that Suarez, when he was on fire (2013/14), was a better season than Mo Salah is having this season – I disagreed. I think Salah’s a joke. I think he’s a ridiculous player. The Chelsea goal the other day, a little shimmy, the defender was rocked. Bang, goal. He’s done this consistently for years now. This guy needs a bit more respect put on Mo Salah’s name. Forget my ties to Man United or whatever, Mo Salah is the truth.’

While quite a few people wrote him off as a one-season wonder at the time the Egyptian international is still playing one of the most prolific goalscorers in the Premier League which isn’t an easy task.

Salah had a previous stint in the Premier League with arch-rivals Chelsea. Whilst that move didn’t exactly work out in his favour his second stint in England with the Anfield outfit would make him a global footballing phenomenon.

The former FC Basel player has already managed to churn out some mind-boggling numbers with the Merseysiders by scoring 150 goals and bagging 56 assists in 233 matches across all competitions to date.

Whilst the attacking and intense brand of football adopted by Jurgen Klopp has been a great motivator in his exploits, maintaining that same level of consistency certainly is no easy job considering the hectic schedule that most professional footballers have to deal with in the modern-day footballing world.

Not many people are considered even relevant to be in a conversation that speaks about Luis Suarez let alone be compared to him. It is difficult to objectively compare both the players considering that they worked under different managers and a different group of players in their time at Anfield.

That being said, Ferdinand has given his stamp of approval for Salah. This coming from the legend of a rival club makes it even sweeter for the Anfield faithful. As things stand, the Egyptian’s legacy contineus to grow.
