In a game of fine margins, Liverpool defeated Chelsea to lift their ninth League Cup title at Wembley Stadium.
Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga came off the bench to make the difference and in a way, he did just that. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, it was Liverpool who benefitted as Kepa missed the decisive penalty in the shootout.
The Reds appeared to have scored a goal in the second half courtesy of Joel Matip but the strike was chalked off thanks to a very controversial decision by the referee. Thankfully it did not come to bite the club in the end as we emerged victorious.
The Liverpool players displayed nerves of steel as every single Reds star who stepped up delivered. If anything, the calmness under pressure was a testament to the moniker of ‘mentality monsters that Jurgen Klopp’s side have become accustomed to.
Winning the first major trophy of the season will hopefully provide Klopp and co with enough inspiration to go all out and make it a season for the history books. Whisper it quietly but a quadruple is still on.
