Micah Richards has urged Kylian Mbappe to choose Liverpool or Manchester City over Real Madrid
In conversation with CBS Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), Football pundit Micah Richards believes that Kylian Mbappe should sign for Liverpool or Manchester City. These statements were made after Paris Saint-Germain succumbed to a shock defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Thiery Henry claimed that the French international is most likely to join Los Blancos in the summer because he would like to play for the team that he supports. In response to this Richards made his claim about what he feels should be the next footballing destination for the 23-year-old.
The former AS Monaco player has grown in leaps and bounds ever since joining the club from Paris. He has quickly become one of the hottest properties in Europe. It is believed that the La Liga club made three bids for Mbappe but failed to secure his services with those attempts. The World Cup winner’s current deal with the French giants comes to a close on June 30 this year which could possibly see him join the Santiago Bernabeu outfit on a free transfer.
The French superstar has been in electric form this season scoring 25 goals and providing 17 assists in 35 matches across all competitions. The 23-year-old has the potential to become one of the greatest to play the sport if he manages to continue on the same trajectory.
Speaking to CBS Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), the 33-year-old pundit shared his thoughts on the future of Kylian Mbappe. He highlighted that Man City and Liverpool could be better destinations for the young star.
“I don’t think he should go to Real Madrid though. Like Thierry said, ‘his mind might be already made up. But I would be going to Manchester City or Liverpool. They are the two best teams consistently, I would say in Europe. Yes, people will say ‘Man City have never won the Champions League’. But, the way they play, the points record. I would be going to either Liverpool or Man City.”
Would Kylian Mbappe fit at Liverpool?
The French forward has showcased his talents at the elite level on a consistent basis now. It would be fair to say that any club in the world would be lucky to have him. At 23, Mbappe still seemingly has some of his best footballing years ahead of him and could arguably spearhead the attack of any team.
The Reds have their own set of stars with Mohamed Salah being at his clinical best ever since joining the Anfield Outfit. He has also been assisted by the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to help instil fear in opposition defences.
Ever since the arrival of FSG, the club has adopted a strategy of recruiting younger players into the squad in a move to secure the present as well as the future of the club. Apart from the links to Real Madrid, his enormous wage demands could be a huge obstacle for the Reds.
Liverpool are already trying their best to tie down the Egyptian international to a new contract and the pursuit of the French footballer could become even more challenging in light of this scenario.
