According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Real Madrid have joined Liverpool in the race for Leicester City and Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The Foxes star is out of contract next year and is yet to pen a new deal with Leicester City. While Brendan Rodgers insisted that the talented midfielder is still in renewal talks with the club, there could be the possibility of him leaving the club.
In such a scenario, the Foxes may not want to lose the Belgian for free and could agree to sell him for a cut-price deal come the summer. Liverpool are said to have a long-term interest
in the midfielder, but they are not without competition with Spanish giants Real Madrid also said to be keen on the player.Los Blancos expect the Belgian to be the long-term replacement for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu. The midfielder has time and again shown his quality in the Premier League and if he becomes available on the market, there is no doubt that he would not be short of suitors.
Having played for the Foxes for over three years now, Youri Tielemans may be ready for his next big step. He arrived after impressing at Anderlecht in Belgium, and has taken his game to the next level in England over the years.
The Belgian could fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system and be the replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum
who left the club in the summer. Those who have watched the two midfield stars play would attest to the claim that they play similar roles in central midfield for their respective teams. At 24, Tielemans is very young and has many many years ahead of him. Under the tutelage of someone like the German manager, the Leicester city midfielder could unlock his full potential and become a truly world-class player.
Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita are undoubtedly quality players, but have had their fair share of injuries this season. To add to that, James Milner and Jordan Henderson aren’t getting younger.
If the Reds could indeed manage to sign Tielemans, he could be a smart signing at Anfield. Whether he leaves the Foxes and whether Liverpool manage to convince him is something left to be seen. After all, the pulling power of Los Galacticos is no joke either.
