Transfer News: Liverpool target Jonathan David set to leave Lille in the summer
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool target Jonathan David is set to be available on the market and looks set to leave LOSC Lille in the coming summer.
The Reds have retained a long-term interest in the Canadian international and with the striker set to leave his current club. Whether Liverpool will make a move to sign the 22-year-old forward come the summer, remains to be seen.
David has been on scintillating form for the Ligue 1 side this season, scoring 17 goals in 37 matches across all competitions this season. He has already won 27 caps for the Canadian national team scoring 20 goals in the process.
Liverpool Echo claims that at least ten European clubs are keen on signing Jonathan David and if the Reds want the player, they are going to have it easy. Liverpool will need to overcome a lot of competition and convince the player to come to Anfield.
The new striker?
Liverpool could do with a reinforcement in the striker position in the summer. Divock Origi, who is merely a rotational player, could be on his way out while Roberto Firmino has been on the decline for quite some time now.
While Diego Jota has established himself as a reliable player for Jurgen Klopp this season, scoring crucial goals, he could do with a bit of competition and signing another striker prospect is not a bad idea for the Reds.
In David, Liverpool will be getting a player who is very different to the strikers they already have and the German manager will love to have a player with the Canadian’s attributes at his disposal.

At 22, the Lille striker has his entire career ahead of him and he will get to work under a great manager in Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. He will have to adapt to the demands of the Premier League though and it remains to be seen if he can produce the same kind of output in English football.
Regardless, Jonathan David’s situation is something to keep a keen eye on in the summer.
