Fulham are plotting a double raid for Liverpool defenders Neco Williams and Joe Gomez

According to The Express, Fulham could be interested in Liverpool defenders Joe Gomez and Neco Williams.

The Cottagers are currently leading the Championship table making a great claim for a Premier League spot next season. The Whites have been quite impressive this campaign and could be looking to add more reinforcements in the summer.

Williams has been a great hit at Craven Cottage this season. The Welsh wing-back has played nine matches for Fulham in the second tier of English football bagging two goals and recording two assists during that time.

His performances on the field seemed to have impressed the London-based club, who could move for another loan move to keep him for another campaign. Fulham could also look for a permanent deal for the youngster should the opportunity be provided.

Along with the 20-year-old, the Cottagers could also be interested in Gomez who has struggled to make inroads into the first-team setup this season. The English centre-back was once the preferred central defensive partner to Virgil van Dijk but that position has now been bestowed upon Joel Matip.

How could this affect Liverpool?

Williams provides some great attacking threat down the right-flank. The Welsh international shows immense potential but has largely been in the shadow of Trent Alexander Arnold who has made that position his own in the last couple of seasons.

Arnold offers a lot going forward and his influence has been pivotal in games. The English right-back also has a mean free-kick in his arsenal. In such circumstances, a loan move to another club seems like a good opportunity for Neco Williams to get some minutes under his belt.

Whilst that is true at 20, the Welsh wing-back showcases the quality to become the successor to Alexander-Arnold. The club should thus beware of selling the upcoming starlet on a permanent deal. Let us now take a look at the other defender who has popped up on the radar of Fulham.

Gomez was once an integral part of the Liverpool backline but has slowly gone down the pecking order. The addition of Ibrahima Konate has provided more depth in the defensive department, gravely affecting the playing time of the English international.

Joe Gomez has only played 620 minutes for the Reds this season with a majority of that chuck coming in the Carabao and EFL cup. His lack of playing minutes on the field could also hinder his prospects of making it to the England national squad.

The 24-year-old centre-back has a lot to give and could start getting frustrated by the lack of opportunities at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp has previously mentioned that the English defender is still a huge part of his plans, shedding light on how the injury was a great factor in his limited game-time.

At 20 and 24 respectively, Williams and Gomez have the best years of their footballing career ahead of them. It would be a real shame if the club would lose out on such talented defenders at this stage.

That being said, a lucrative deal could tempt the Merseysiders into thinking about a prospective deal. While there seems to be interest in the defensive duo at the moment, only time can tell us whether or not they choose to make their footballing career at Liverpool or somewhere else.
