Reliable journalist admits that Liverpool ace is closing in on Serie A switch

Fabrizio Romano reveals that AC Milan are confident of reaching an agreement with Liverpool star Divock Origi

According to popular football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Liverpool striker Divock Origi is closing in on a move to AC Milan in the upcoming summer on a free transfer.

The Belgian international is coming to the end of his contract with the Reds and Liverpool are not keen to renew a new deal. Origi has fallen out of favour at Anfield and considering the abundance of attacking options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, he is better off taking his talents elsewhere.

The 26-year-old striker has achieved cult status in Anfield, scoring important goals over the years. However, he has opportunities tough to come by, playing just 14 games across all competitions this season.

With the Reds not willing to renew his contract, it makes sense for the Belgian to explore pastures new and according to Romano, AC Milan might just give him that opportunity.

A new lease of life?

The Belgian is just 26-years-old and still has time on his hands to resurrect a successful yet low-profile career. All he needs is a team that gives him regular game time and the opportunity to shine.

Origi has often proved to be a clutch player and Milan could benefit from signing him. Liverpool will not be losing much if the striker leaves and this is a move that could turn out to be beneficial for all parties.

Liverpool may need to sign a backup striker next season but even if they don’t, they have Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as options to lead the line.

Jurgen Klopp has enough options to choose from in attack.

Origi has never been a first XI star at Liverpool and is very unlikely to assume that an upturn in fortunes is in the works. However, he is a great utility player who has had many great moments in a Reds shirt and we will always be thankful to him for that.

At 26, he has every right to seek regular playtime elsewhere. We will not begrudge him should a move to the San Siro materialise this summer.
