Transfer News: Barcelona are eyeing Mohamed Salah as an alternative to Erling Haaland
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Mail), Barcelona are set to pursue Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah should they fail to land Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland.
Salah’s contract with the Reds expires in 2023 and the Egyptian is yet to agree to a new deal at Anfield. Despite the club wanting to keep him at any costs, the player is yet to concur with the terms that the club have offered him.
Barcelona are trying to bring Erling Haaland to the Camp Nou in the 2022 summer transfer window. Although the Norwegian remains the Catalan club’s priority, the Spanish club are lining up alternatives in case the deal for the Norwegian doesn’t work out.
Barcelona have Salah, Robert Lewandowski and Romelu Lukaku lined up as alternatives to the Borussia Dortmund striker with Xavi said to be keen on playing the Liverpool winger as a number 9 in the Camp Nou. It is a role he has thrived in at Anfield.
Salah to leave?
Ever since he joined the Reds from Roma, the winger has established himself as the talisman for Liverpool and is arguably one of the best players in the world this season.
Although the Reds do not want to lose Salah, they will be wary of losing him for free and may consider a suitable offer next summer. Whether the negotiations have reached a point of no return and a sale remains the last resort remains to be seen.
Barcelona are in the process of a rebuild and Salah is another player who could be on his way to the Catalan club. It remains to be seen if the Reds reconsider their stance and try to keep the Egyptian at any cost.
