Speaking to Football Insider as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Danny Mills has warned Manchester City from pursuing a move for 29-year-old Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian has a contract with the Reds until 2023 and is yet to pen a new deal at Anfield. If the Egyptian indeed was to leave, Mills has urged his former club Man City not to consider taking him to Etihad.
Jurgen Klopp recently conceded that there is not much to be done other than wait for Salah to respond to Liverpool’s offer. The Egyptian is supposedly holding out for a better deal and his future at Anfield is far from certain.
If Salah is available, there will be no shortage of suitors and Manchester City are no different. However, Mills feels with the talent that City possess, signing Salah is not a wise option.
“He’s not the right age profile for City. They’ve got plenty of talent in those positions already. He’s an outstanding player but is that what City need? Look at Foden, Grealish, Mahrez, Silva, Sterling. They’ve got an abundance of attacking options in those wide areas.”
Salah has arguably been the best player in the world this season, scoring 28 goals
already across all competitions this season. The Egyptian superstar has been a talisman for Jurgen Klopp’s team and has continually been performing on a very high level. If the winger is available on the market, clubs across Europe could be fighting for his signature.
It remains to be seen if the Reds do everything in their might to keep the Egyptian, especially with rivals like Manchester City circling around. If Salah indeed were to leave, then the Reds will have to compensate for a massive loss in terms of goalscoring ability.
The Reds may want to keep the Egyptian for as long as possible but losing Salah does not seem like an impossible situation after all. Either way as long as the club take their best foot forward, they shall endure.
