Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is in a race to be fit for Manchester City clash
According to The Athletic (subscription required), Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is in a race against time to be fit for the clash against league leaders Manchester City at Etihad on April 10.
The England international suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal before the international break which forced him to pull out of the Three Lions squad. This in turn is expected to keep the 23-year-old out of the Watford clash in the league and also the first leg of the quarter-finals against Benfica.
The game against defending champions Manchester City is being touted as the possible return date for the scintillating right-back. However, Trent could be cutting it very close with his fitness against Manchester City touch and go.
The talented full-back has already begun his rehab in Dubai and still has a few days to go before he receives the medical green light to return to group training.
Having contributed 11 assists in the Premier League this season, Trent has been sensational for Jurgen Klopp’s team. He is just two assists shy of breaking his own record of 13 assists during Liverpool’s title win in the 2019-20 season.
No risks
The clash against Manchester City on April 10 is very crucial for Liverpool with it being possibly a title-deciding clash for the Premier League.
However, despite the importance of the clash, Klopp is likely to not cut any corners with Trent considering that everything is still to be won this season.
Liverpool are chasing an unprecedented quadruple and having already secured the Carabao Cup, they are still going strong in the other three competitions. Trent is undoubtedly one of the Reds’ most influential players.
Trent and Robertson have formed a deadly full-back combination for the Reds and the English international also has a great relationship with Mohamed Salah down the right flank.
In the absence of the 23-year-old, Joe Gomez is probably the favourite to fill in at right-back. The centre-back did a great job against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and is the most likely candidate to play in that position. Kostas Tsimikas and James Milner are also options for Klopp if he wishes.
