Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hits out at the FA for refusing to shift the semi-final against Manchester City
Speaking in an interview as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has hit out at the decision to keep Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City at Wembley as “one of the most ridiculous stories” he has ever heard.
Despite multiple calls for the clash of the two giants to be shifted out of Wembley due to the absence of trains during the Easter weekend, FA has refused to rearrange the clash.
The West Coast Main Line between London Euston and Milton Keynes is closed from April 15 to 19. This makes it difficult for the supporters of both the clubs to travel to Wembley and support their club for such a crucial encounter.
Supporters from both these clubs have criticised the decision and the Mayors of the Manchester and Liverpool areas released a joint statement requesting a change in the stadium that would help both sets of supporters.
Jurgen Klopp has now criticised the FA saying that not shifting the match from Wembley to elsewhere is one of the ‘most ridiculous stories’ he has heard.
“It is one of the most ridiculous stories I have ever heard. I heard that they knew about the works for 18 months and I’m not sure what the FA thought; that no club from the north west could be part of the semi-finals? I really can’t believe that things like this can happen”
The lack of a 12th man?
With the request for a change in the venue not materialising, it remains to be seen how many of the supporters of either club are able to make the journey to Wembley.
Both sets of supporters will want to be present at the stadium to root for their team in such a prestigious clash and their concerns regarding the travel in the absence of trains are clearly justified.
A Liverpool-City clash is always high-octane with both teams playing with great desire and intensity. Both teams are managed by great coaches who will be looking to outsmart each other and the support from their fans could well be the driving force they need to go the extra mile.
The clash between the two giants is set to take place in Wembley on the 16th or 17th of April as both teams look to claim a spot in the finals of the FA Cup. Both these teams are set to face each other on the 10th of April in the Premier League in what could be a potential title-deciding clash.
