Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Fabinho is fine after a knock on his head

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Benfica in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League as quoted by Liverpool Echo , Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Fabinho is ‘fine’ despite the blow he suffered on his head.

Liverpool managed to secure a first-leg lead against the Portuguese team which could hold them in good stead to progress to the semi-finals of the competition. Goals from Ibrahima Konate, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz helped Klopp’s men overcome Benfica whose solitary goal was scored by Darwin Nunez.

However, the Reds were in for a scare when defensive midfielder Fabinho clashed heads with Nicolas Otamendi of Benfica and required a lengthy period of treatment.

Speaking about the incident, Klopp clarified that Fabinho was fine and it was a cut that needed attending to. Given that it is a minor injury that doesn’t concern the bones, ligament or muscles, we can expect the Brazilian to be back in contention for our game against Manchester City this weekend.

“He’s fine. That is how it looks, it is a cut on the back of his head and there is no hair to hold the blood back. But he should be completely fine”

A key player for the Reds?

The Reds have crucial potentially season-defining clashes against Manchester City and the German manager will be hoping to have Fabinho at his disposal.

If Fabinho indeed misses one of the clashes, then as he has shown many times this season, Jordan Henderson can fill in admirably. However, Klopp could prefer having Fabinho in the deeper role and the club captain further forward- as he has done for the majority of this season.

Liverpool are in the hunt for an unprecedented quadruple this season. They have already secured the Carabao Cup title and are still in contention for all the other competitions. The next two weeks will be very crucial for the Reds.

The Merseyside club have two games against the high-flying Manchester City, one in the FA Cup and one in the Premier League and there is a feeling that these two matches could turn out to be season defining for the Reds.

Hopefully Fabinho is fit and Klopp will be hoping that there are no more injury concerns for him to handle, as he looks to navigate a difficult schedule. Luckily for us, other midfielders such as Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara are fit and firing, so even if the Brazilian is rested this month, we wouldn’t feel his absence too much.
