Transfer News: Liverpool are in the race for PSG sensation Kylian Mbappe
According to L’Equipe (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are in the race for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Frenchman’s contract expires in the summer and his future at Parc de Princes is far from certain. He is yet to agree a new deal with the club despite Paris Saint-Germain’s efforts to keep the superstar for longer.
The 23-year-old, no doubt, is one of the best youngsters in football today and his current career trajectory could see him become the world’s best player in the years to come. Already a well-established name, the sky’s the limit for the Frenchman.
The 22-year-old has rejected two different renewal proposals made by the Parisian board, and the current talks have stalled. This could be a massive advantage for the Merseyside team, who remains interested in luring the youngster to Anfield. However, their chances could be slim because of Real Madrid’s intentions.
Real Madrid are said to be front-runners for the Frenchman but Liverpool could be in with a chance. However, the talented striker will not come cheap, especially with clubs like Los Blancos and Manchester City also said to be in the fray.
Almost impossible?
Despite the reported interest in Mbappe, it seems extremely unlikely that the Reds will be able to pursue their interest considering the enormous financial strain it could cause on their budget.
Mbappe has had yet another unbelievable season in a faltering PSG side, scoring 28 goals and assisting a further 20 in 38 games across all competitions this season. The numbers more than speak for the 23-year-old’s potential.
Whilst it’s not yet ruled out that the French striker could choose to renew at the French capital, if he does not, then some club will be able to land the striker for free in the summer.

Mbappe is a completely different player to the kind of strikers that Liverpool already have in their ranks. A player of his calibre is bound to improve the quality of the Reds’ attacking options, which are already overflowing with talent.
It seems likely that Real Madrid will land their target if Mbappe were to leave. However, he could always be an option for the Reds if they decide to flex their financial muscle.
