Alisson Becker gives a glowing verdict of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate after Liverpool beat Benfica
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Alisson Becker was full of praise for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate as Liverpool beat Benfica in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter final fixture.
The Brazilian keeper has been an integral part of our defensive setup ever since making the switch from AS Roma to Anfield. His sturdy presence at the back has guided us to great success across Europe as well as England.
The Brazilian international took this opportunity to shower his praise on Konate and Alexander Arnold who played a crucial role in their UCL fixture against the Portuguese club. The French defender opened the scoring for the Reds in the 17th minute at the Estadio da Luz, setting up the platform for an entertaining game.
In conversation with Liverpoolfc.com, the 29-year-old goalkeeper shed light on the quality of the 22-year-old defender. He also added that Konate was not only a good defender but also a great person too.
It’s really important for us. He’s a young player, a big talent with a lot of qualities. He is a good defender, a top guy, and a really nice person as well. I’m happy to have him on the team and we can count on him as well to score goals.
The Brazilian keeper, when quizzed about the vision of Alexander-Arnold, had some really interesting comments in his kitty. He took this opportunity to express his awe and delight for the 23-year-old defender who has become quite renowned for spraying those nearly inch-perfect long balls in the last few seasons.
Sometimes it looks as if he has got eyes on his back! He just gets the ball and puts it there. The diagonal ball for Luis was amazing, then the decision Luis had to give Sadio the ball – it was an amazing goal.
The talented young defenders at Liverpool
The Merseysiders have been growing in stature with each passing season. The Reds have now managed to create a great blend of young as well as experienced players, as the future of the club seems to be in safe hands.
The English defender who has earned a lot of praise for his passing abilities seems to be setting the bar higher with every match. Former Chelsea and LFC winger Joe Cole even went on to hint that the 23-year-old defender is a ‘better’ passer of the ball compared to David Beckham.
That is more than just a glowing verdict for someone who still has his prime footballing years ahead of him. Trent has already managed to bag two goals and notch up 17 assists for the Merseysiders in 36 matches across all competitions this campaign.
Along with the English defender, Konate is also starting to make a substantial impact with the first team, featuring regularly in the Champions League for Liverpool since making the switch. The young centre-back has shown great composure and maturity on the ball whenever called upon in place of Joel Matip.
At 22, he seems to be on the right path to become the torchbearer of the defensive setup at Anfield should he continue in the same manner. The Reds have already won their first major trophy for the 2021-22 season by getting their hands on the EFL Cup in February.
The much acclaimed quadruple seems like an attainable feat this season, but the youngsters will have to continue performing at the same levels should they look to make this a reality. We take on Manchester City in our upcoming Premier League fixture and that result could set the tone for the rest of the season.
