PSG looks to trump Liverpool in the battle for RB Leipzig attacking sensation Christopher Nkunku
According to French outlet Foot Mercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), PSG are interested in re-signing Liverpool target and RB Leipzig rising star Christopher Nkunku. The French superstar has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.
The 24-year-old has been making waves in the Bundesliga at the moment with his prolific goalscoring record. Paris Saint-Germain are hopeful that signing the French attacker would boost their chances of keeping Kylian Mbappe at the club beyond his current contract.
Nkunku left Le Parc des Princes in the summer of 2019, making the switch to Leipzig for a fee of £13million. He has since grown in strength and stature, impressing us with his performances on the field and it is safe to say the French side made a blunder by letting him leave for such a fee.
Christopher Nkunku to Anfield
The Reds have been one of the shrewdest customers in the last few transfer windows, but have still managed to lure some of the most exciting prospects to Anfield. Ever since the arrival of FSG, the club has largely adopted the model of buying young players with exceptional potential and developing them further.
Christopher Nkunku arguably fits this bill and could prove to be an exciting addition to the club from Merseyside. The French attacker has bagged 27 goals and recorded 17 assists in 40 matches across all competitions for Die Roten Bullen this campaign to date.
Whilst the 24-year-old has predominantly been used as an attacking midfielder, we have also seen him play as a second striker, right-midfielder, left-midfielder, and centre-forward. This shows the kind of versatility he can bring to the team which could be an added bonus for most managers out there.
Jurgen Klopp has managed to get the best out of these players in the last few seasons. The opportunity and lure of working under the German manager could be an added advantage should any negotiation take place.
That being said, PSG have been known to break the bank if they really like a player- case in point, Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe. Their supposed interest could therefore mean that the Reds will have to err on the side of caution should we be genuinely interested in pursuing Nkunku.

We have seen how the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have made a substantial impact with this team despite having a rich spread of attackers to choose from. Hence, there is absolutely no reason why Christopher Nkuku cannot have a similar influence should he make the switch to Anfield.
Roberto Firmino has been one of the foundations of Jurgen Klopp’s success with the Reds on the pitch but the Brazilian isn’t getting any younger. Nkunku, with his ability to play in midfield as well as attack, can be that man– but it remains to be seen if the Reds dip in the market for him after signing Luis Diaz just this January.
